“Doggy, doggy. doggy ……..here, here. Aa jao,” Mayank called. But the dog ran in the opposite direction. It scampered into the garage and hid under the car, tail between its legs, When Mayank edged nearer, it began to whine loudly. Mayank got down on all fours to get a glimpse of the pup. There it was lurking under the radiator. Again, he called out to it. This time he thought of a name, the first one that came to his mind “Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, come here, come……” he called.
But the dog refused. Mayank reached out under the car to touch it. It shrank away and moved further back. Mayank felt hurt and disappointed. He wondered what to do. Then he had a brain wave. "It's probably hungry. It needs food.' F-O-O-D. Why didn't I think of that before?" he wondered.
In he went running to his mother. “Mummy, Mummy, may I please have a slice of bread? There's a beautiful puppy outside and he's very hungry.” Mayank's mother paused for a moment before replying: “There you go again, chasing pups and kittens. Why don't you let them alone? Once you start feeding them, they will come every day. I don't want a nuisance in my house?' Mayank used all his persuasive skills to plead with his mother. “Please, Mummy, just want him to have a little bit of bread before he is driven” Still muttering her disapproval, his mother gave him a slice. Then on a generous impulse, she also gave him a couple of glucose biscuits. “Here, try these on him. But don't be too long, okay? Your father will be coming back any minute.” Mayank's mother was loving, yet strict enough not to let her son get spoiled. Though she instinctively disapproved of Mayank's latest adventure with the stray pup, she let him go ahead. “Perhaps he'll learn something,” she thought to herself. “Certainly, it's not wrong to love animals and plants. It makes children sensitive.”
So Mayank got his way. Armed with the tempting snacks. He made a renewed bid on the pup. He called it many names, even “Tiger”, he threw little crumbs of the biscuits and bread in front of it. The puppy went round and round the car, always moving as far away from the child as possible. It ignored the food.

The highway from Pune to Ahmednagar is an interesting one. Farmers in traditional white peaked caps zip past you, some in fancy new cars. Signs of prosperity are apparent, although the region battled with severe drought just a couple of years ago. A few kilometers down the highway beyond the small town of Chikrapur, a left turn reveals the road that leads to our destination – the village of Chincholi Morachi. Loosely translated, it means the abode of peacocks and tamarind tree, both of which are in abundance here. For, this quaint little village, almost 60 km from Pune, is home to a population of 2000 people, as well as an equal number of peacocks.
As you interact with people here, it’s quite evident why the national bird enjoys special statues at Chincholi Morachi. In this village, the peacock is not just protected, but also revered – so much so that this is one place where its numbers have steadily increased over the years. “Ten years ago, there were almost 600 peacocks in our village. Now, the number is more than three times,” says Maheshrao Gorde, the village sarpanch. For most of the villagers, the peacock is not just a bird, it is also a symbol associated with the village deity Khandoba. “The peacock is the vahan (vehicle) of Khandoba, and is therefore special for us,” says Gorde.

There are three seasons in India. They are summer, rainy season and winter. The duration of the summer season in India is form February to May. During this period the climate is very hot. If we consider the festivals during the summer season, we find many fairs and meals. The work of ploughing fields is done in summer season. June to September is included in the rainy season. The climate is cloudy, chilly and cold. Gauri and Ganesh festival are celebrated in the rainy season. The work of sowing seeds is done in the beginning of this season.
The duration of the winter season in India is from October to December. During this period the climate is very cold. If we consider the festivals during the winter season, we celebrate Dipawali, Drashara etc. The work of ripping crops and sowing seeds again is done in winter seasons. The variety of seasons make India unique.

Modern society relies heavily on the convenience and versatility of electricity. It powers your microwave, helps light your house, let's you watch TV and so much more; Electricity plays a role in the way your heartbeats. Muscle cells in the heart are contracted by electricity going through the heart. Electrocardiogram (ECG) machines used in hospitals measure the electricity going through someone's heart. When the person is healthy it usually shows a line moving across a screen with regular spikes as the heartbeats. You may have heard of direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). The difference between the two is in the way the electrons flow. In DC electrons move in a single direction while in AC they change directions, switching between backwards and forwards. The electricity use in your home is AC while DC comes from sources that include batteries.
Electric fields work in a similar way to gravity with an important exception being that while gravity always attracts, electric fields can either attract or repulse. American scientist Benjamin Franklin carried our extensive electricity research in the 18th century, inventing the lightning rod amongst his many discoveries. Lightning strikes through a grounded wire.

"How shabby, indeed!" cried the Town Councilors, who always agreed with the Mayor; and they went up to look at it.
"The ruby has fallen out of his sword, his eyes are gone, and he is golden no longer," said the
Mayor, "in fact, he is little better than a beggar!"

So now Della's beautiful hair fell about her, rippling and shining like a cascade of brown waters. It reached below her knee and made itself almost a garment for her. And then she did it up again nervously and quickly. Once she faltered for a minute and stood still while a tear or two splashed on the worn red carpet.
On went her old brown jacket; on went her old brown hat. With a whirl of skirts and with the brilliant sparkle still in her eyes, she cluttered out of the door and down the stairs to the street.
Where she stopped the sign read: 'Mme Sofronie. Hair Goods of All Kinds.' One Eight up Della ran, and collected herself, panting. Madame, large, too white, chilly, hardly looked the 'Sofronie.'
"Will you buy my hair?" asked Della.
"I buy hair," said Madame. "Take your hat off and let's have a sight at the looks of it."
Down rippled the brown cascade.
